The Eldorado Suites Hotel is located high on OK Street overlooking "Brewery Gulch", once notorious for its wild west saloons and brothels. The Bisbee Film Festival: One People One Planet will offer a diverse slate of films for its second season including features, works-in-progress, short films from University of Arizona students and a special presentation about how Star Wars was dubbed into the Navajo language. Films hail from Germany, India/UK and the United States.
The festival is curated by Program Director Vicky Westover, Director/Hanson Film Institute, University of Arizona. Several directors/producers/speakers will be on hand for a Q&A after screenings. All films are shown in high quality HD. Tickets are free. Filmmakers represented include a director of two Academy Award-nominated actors, a 2015 Best Documentary nominee for the prestigious UK Grierson Awards, an ACE Eddie and Emmy nominee, a legend of gay cinema and the renowned documentarian Les Blank.
Subject matter covers a wide-range of topics — the murder of an unarmed black youth, a Mexican-American debutante ball celebrating colonial America, a horrendous gang rape in India, a girls’ coming-of-age story, a Chinese nightclub in 30s/40s San Francisco, the history of Streit’s Matzos and celebrations of the work of artists and musicians, including Leon Russell.
